Ann Chesley Edmunds

In 2014 Sterling Edmunds established the Ann Chesley Scholarship Fund in honor of his mother. Each year it is awarded to one or more Mecklenburg County residents.

Old Dominion Electric Cooperative

The ODEC Scholarship, which was created in 2003 by the Old Dominion Cooperative, and is awarded to students from Halifax or Charlotte Counties.

Virginia Penick Estate

Established by the Penick family in 2006 as a memorial to their mother, Virginia Penick who was a beloved teacher. This scholarship is preferably given to students studying education.

Hope-Tone

Established in 2002 and updated in 2018 by Chris Lumsden. He established this scholarship in honor of his parents, Alvelta Hope and Buford Tone Lumsden. It is designated to assist nursing/ medical students in their pursuit in the medical field.

FOUNDATION Scholarship

Since 2005, the Southern Virginia Higher Education Foundation has awarded their own signature scholarships in the name of the Foundation.

One of the key principles is to keep education affordable by filling the funding gaps allowing students to focus on learning.

Ann and Sterling Edmunds Scholarship For the Arts

Established in 2022, this scholarship will be awarded to low- and moderate-income students and minorities living in Halifax, Mecklenburg, or Charlotte County.

The recipients must seek to enroll in art classes offered by the Community Arts Center Foundation located at  The Prizery, 700 Bruce Street, South Boston, Virginia.

Microsoft Scholarship

The Microsoft Scholar’s Program is awarded to women and minorities who are underrepresented in the IT field and are enrolled in the SVHEC IT Academy.

Leggett Scholarship

Endowed in 2012, the Leggett Leadership Scholarship Fund was created to honor Tommy Leggett’s service to the Foundation and is awarded to students studying business, management, etc.

Brad Ballou Memorial

Established in 2022, this scholarship is dedicated to serving the youth in Halifax County in his honor and celebration of life.

Dr. W. Joseph Ferguson Memorial Scholarship

Established in 2021, the Dr. W. Joseph Ferguson Memorial Scholarship is open to all students enrolled at SVHEC.

Dr. Bill Bell Medical Education Scholarship

Established in 2022 by the Dr. Bill Bell Medical Foundation is awarded to students pursuing a career in the medical field.

J. E. Burton Construction Scholarship

Established in 2022, this scholarship is awarded to students enrolled in Workforce Training Certification Programs offered through the SVHEC.

Elliott Electric Inc. Scholarship

The Elliott Electric Inc. Scholarship supports students enrolled in Workforce Training Certification classes: HVAC, Welding, and Information Technology.

Mark T. Trickey Memorial Scholarship

Established by Comfort Systems USA MidAtlantic to support Workforce Training certification in HVAC and Welding. This scholarship also supports children or grandchildren of current Comfort Systems Employees.

Rose and Garden Club Scholarship

Established in 2023. The first award to be given Spring 2024 to graduating senior, attending any college, pursuing a career in farming, agriculture, community and human services. Residents of Halifax, Mecklenburg, Pittsylvania, Charlotte, and Brunswick counties may apply with their guidance counselor.

Senior Exercise Group Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to graduating Halifax County High School seniors pursuing a career in nursing.

Justyce Reid Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to graduating Halifax County High School seniors pursuing a career in teaching in the field of Special Education.

Scholarship Process

We encourage students who are enrolled in the SVHEC to apply for scholarships.

IT Academy certificate students are encouraged to apply for the Microsoft Scholars Program found on the last page of the application.

Before Beginning Your Application:

  • Please have reference letters and a personal essay ready to upload.
  • Be prepared before begining the form. You will not be able to save it to complete later.
  • If you would like to make sure you have all required information before you begin, you may review a PDF copy of the application.

APPLICATIONS must be received at least 45 days prior to the start of class. Awards will be made before the start of classes.
