The Southern Virginia Higher Education Foundation (SVHEF) has recently awarded scholarships to a group of students pursuing workforce training in various fields, including Information Technology, HVAC, and Welding. A total of 22 recipients are continuing their education to gain certifications in these important industries. 

Congratulations to these students and may they continue to thrive in their studies at the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center (SVHEC) located in South Boston, Virginia.  

Information Technology Academy students: Sherrita Clark, Tabitha Clement, Brian Coleman, Paige Gravitt, Elissa Hairston, Cameron Jones, Taniyah Jones, Francisco Lopez, Jason Maples, Hannah Mull, Melissa Harris Smiley, Eduardo Rodriquez-Gomez, and Monica Sydnor.

Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Level II students: Michael Brizendine, Brandon Gayle, Robert Powell, Cameron Royster, Harrison Snead, and Joseph Williams.

Welding Level II students: Isaiah Boxley-Bellamy, Daniel Porterfield holding Annie his goat, and Erica Williams.

The Foundation Board of Directors is deeply appreciative for the continued donations both locally and across the region.  The SVHEF is host to dozens of scholarships whose founders, whether individuals or organizations, had a dream to support higher education for those living and working in Southern Virginia.  

Over $20,0000.00 was awarded for the Spring Workforce Training Cohorts  from various scholarship funds.  Microsoft Scholars’ Scholarship awarded ($14,000) – J. E. Burton Construction Scholarship ($2,500) – Mark T. Trickey Memorial Scholarship by Comfort Systems USA MidAtlantic ($2,200) – Elliott Electric, Inc. Scholarship (1,800) – Live Your Best Life Scholarship ($800).

The SVHEF Board is grateful for the scholarship founders and the dedication of the scholarship committee which works year-round to make awards each semester and each cohort.

Applications for the Summer Semester are being accepted now for students enrolling through SVHEC and its college partners.  Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) and Danville Community College (DCC) classes start May 19th.  The Information Technology Academy at SVHEC will soon announce their Summer certification classes. Scholarship applications are due April 1st.
