The Southern Virginia Higher Education Foundation (SVHEF) is proud to announce the awarding of over $14,000 in scholarships for the Summer 2025 semester. These awards are part of a larger commitment to support students pursuing higher education, with more than $82,000 in scholarships distributed during the 2024–2025 academic year (Fall 2024–Summer 2025). These scholarships support a wide range of educational and career pathways, from healthcare and education to business, cybersecurity, welding, and information technology.
The Ann Chesley Edmunds Scholarship has been awarded to: Kylee Barksdale, Serenity Glenn. and Lexi Swillie. Barksdale is studying Phlebotomy at Danville Community College (DCC), Glenn is studying Radiology at Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC), and Swillie is studying to be Dental Hygienist at SVCC. The Ann Chesley Edmunds scholarship supports any field of study.
The Hope-Tone Scholarship supports students in the medical field and was awarded to Jordan Allen, Wanda Davis, Sara Franklin, Kassiti Jackson, and Kenya Thomas (not pictured). Allen is studying Science at SVCC. Davis, Franklin, Jackson, and Thomas are all studying Nursing at SVCC.
Elizabeth Eales is studying Education at SVCC and received the Virginia Penick Estate Scholarship.
Nevaeh Goode is studying Accounting at SVCC and has been awarded the Leggett Scholarships which supports students who are pursuing a career in Business.
The Wilson Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Rex Liggon (not pictured) who is studying Cyber Security at SVCC.
The Microsoft Scholars Scholarship provides support for students in the Information Technology Academy (ITA) pursuing Workforce Training Certifications. The ITA offered two cohorts this Summer, the first cohort is CompTIA Tech+, includes the following recipients: Agatha Bowen, Stephanie Fallen (not pictured), Christin Matthews, Erica Mitchell, Mackenzie Rudder, and Mudatheer White (not pictured). Johanna Armitage is the recipient of the Microsoft Scholars Scholarship enrolled in the second cohort, Security+.
The Workforce Training cohort this summer included Arc Welding I. The J. E. Burton Construction Scholarship was awarded to Isiah Boxley-Bellamy and Erica Williams.
